Am I Ready to Implement my Innovation Project?

Image by Manfred Steger from Pixabay

I am still in the phases of almost implementation. I know this sounds bad. By almost, I mean everything is ready to go but the action has not been put into place for the students to develop their e-portfolios. There has been many changes taking place on our campus and with the transition of many different platforms and integrations all of the extra time has been spent on that. I know what I want to do when I want to do it and how I want it done. So, I need to do it. I need to implement e-portfolios as beginning stages in Spring of 2020 as I originally hoped for. But below you will see reasons for why implementation might or should be delayed. For now, I have little help with anything that I am doing. I have to create, run, and monitor respiratory simulations. I manage, oversee, monitor, advise, and evaluate all clinical data. I attend meetings sometimes at least three times a week, and I have lecture courses that are different subject each semester. I have been overwhelmed to take on yet a new project.

Therefore, throughout the summer and this last semester I have looked into ways to make my project work for my students, program, and myself in such a busy time. I took a look at my current resources and what my students utilize at this point for reflection, or if we have anything at all. I then realized I am already having my students journal once a week about their experience at clinical. The only issue I have with that is they are not getting feedback like I hope from their instructors. I spoke with the instructors and decided to do a once a month reflection for the students about their clinical experience and a reflection of their simulation each time they attended. Below is the system that we use to record all of our clinical data:

Administrator Home Screen
Administrator Home Screen
Student’s Submission Block/Clinician’s Feedback Block/Clinical Director’s Feedback Block
Student’s reflection for the month of September
Student’s Reflection on September’s Simulation
Our new Sim Baby on Bubble CPAP

I decided to go to a once a month reflection for the clinical, due to the instructors waiting till the last day to approve the summaries. I believed the students were wasting all of their time and thoughts into something and not receiving any type of direction or feedback on their thoughts. Therefore, if they had less to look over or give feedback on it would allow them to give them better feedback on their month. We could also see who needed help or is struggling or had real thoughts about their clinical experience. Above you see a student break it down by week. I really wanted an entire summary of her month. Possibly what caught her eye, what she got to experience that she will never forget, or that one thing she learned that didn’t know about. My one goal with my innovation plan was to use it as a reflection tool. I believe that this is currently doing that, but ultimately I would like it to be a resume for the students.

As you can see the above website rt.clinicaltrac.net provides much needed data for my program and students. They pay $120.00 for use of the site. It houses and stores all of their competencies, evaluations, journals, clock hours, and numerous other capabilities that we can utilize. This has made me rethink my innovation plan again after I began more heavy into simulation. This program is housing most of what I would like my students to do with e-portfolios. And they are required to do these things through our accrediting board. If I began e-portfolios will they be doing repetitive work or will I be able to tie them together? I have been thinking about this.

Scary Simulation 2019

I have spent most of my time focusing on simulation and how it is improving our program outcomes. We spend a very detailed time debriefing with the students after simulation. That is why I decided to have them make a detailed reflection on their learning for that day. They were very scared and uncomfortable with the thought of a possibility of it becoming public. Therefore, I believe if we have them start with reflections via clinical trac and instructors providing feedback their we will see how the e-portfolios will work for the program. Having a pilot group this summer try e-portfolios for reflection and feedback for clinical data and simulation seems to be a better target date then starting full implementation in January 2020. And full implementation date Fall of 2020.

I’ve honestly thought I should have looked more into flipped classroom or other technologies. I currently use flip classroom but I did not realize it till I started this program! My students do all of their homework, quizzes, and assignments outside of class. When they come into my class they should be prepared for lecture and be able to answer questions through pear deck, quizlet live, or kahoot.

My biggest passion and focus right now is simulation. The lab coordinator and I work on and develop simulations. Our lab currently uses Laerdal manikins with the Leap and Sim Pad Plus programs. We are capable of doing and manipulating the manikin to act and perform almost every disorder, trauma or disease process we would like. I spend 50% of my week working on simulation and building the respiratory simulation program. I want the e-portfolios to be their reflection point for the students and others model this action.

At this time I still do not believe my staff is prepared to make the reflection point successful. Also, my staff is constantly changing since they are part-time. They come and go from each semester, so it is sometimes hard to find one who is consistent and will want to continue the success that I am looking for in my students. I want to see how this semester goes and their reflection on clinical trac is before implementation. In my call to action video:

My implementation project will not be successful if I cannot get everyone on board. My clinical instructors tend to not provide the students feedback online like they need. I am testing the waters to see where I need to go from here. If I need to try clinical trac and put reflections for simulations on there so the students will be provided proper feedback for now, we will use that as our starting point.

canva design e-portfolio implement

I have learned so much throughout my innovation project. I do know I want e-portfolios for my program, it is just when do I want them. Most importantly, I feel I should have did a little more research on e-portfolios and to see if they would ultimately work for the respiratory program. I also learned that I should have looked into simulation as my innovation project and how I really need a more laid out plan for simulation goals set for funding and implementation into the program. I will know when I start my next project to make sure that I look more into the essentials for the project before implementing it to the school.

Headed Towards a COVA Approach in Respiratory Care Education

Class of 2021 observing a Neonate Baby being shipped out to Houston, TX from a local facility.

I was not aware before I began the Master’s Program in Digital Learning and Leading at Lamar University Online that I would be allowed to create my own learning through choice, ownership, voice and authenticity. I thought it would be the usual type of learning, where you would write paper after paper and read this book for continuous research that is expected from you in master’s programs.

I did college a little different than most of the other students in the program with me. I originally went to undergraduate school for Agriculture Development where little choice was ever provided. We were expected to learn exactly how the professor taught it and regurgitate the learning for the exams. I graduated with my BS in Ag Development in 2005 and was not sure what I wanted to do with my degree at that time. It was hard to find jobs locally or set in on a career in our town. Therefore, I went back to school for Respiratory Therapy and finished in 2013. Once again, my instructors left little choice in our learning. It was following the guidelines built by the instructors or you will fail. I enjoyed both programs regardless, but respiratory I enjoyed the most when I was at clinical and being able to be on my own and make choices on how to treat my patient.

Quickly, I realized in Concepts of Ed Tech that I could choose, ownership, and voice though my assignment. I have never been allowed to choose my own platform to create a presentation. Through COVA/CSLE we were given choice right away to choose the way we wanted to learn.

http://www.harapnuik.org/?page_id=7050

In past college programs or course I would have never been allowed to decide which website I would like to use to create my profile. They would have made it a standard for all students to have the same website and the guidelines you must follow. I think back to my first assignment that I created with PowToon; I believe that had to be the hardest video/assignment I submitted in the program. First off it was my very first video I ever created, I have made many presentations via power point but never through you tube or a website like this, I was so nervous. I remember stressing so hard over what to do, what was wanted from me, and if it was good enough. I have been so accustomed to following a rubric and doing what is required. And the rubric from the DLL program is so broad. But it made me really work harder for it and think beyond my norm.

I was not ready for this type of learning at all.  I had to adjust my learning style and mine to a different thought process. I had to remember that being allowed the COVA approach is what I have been needing to do for my students. Therefore, I need to learn how it works for myself before, presenting to them. It has not easy to be in control of my learning, it took a whole different mindset to allow this to happen. Therefore, I believe reading Mindset: The new psychology of success, helped me look into myself and how I, my students, and my family learned. Looking into the learners mindset helped me look at my program as a whole and where it needed to be and how it should grow.

After looking at my mindset I then had to review if my learning philosophy was open to these new ideas. We were asked to review the different philosophy’s of learning and look at what we were grown up learning and how we believe we teach or learn. I believe that I have a more open and growth mindset when it comes to my learning and teaching styles. Through, the research I realized my learning was more of a constructivist view. It has aligned with my innovation plan and goals I have for my program. The constructivist view allows for the student to have that COVA/CSLE approach that I am looking for in the future.

My program has been lacking new innovating ideas to engage the learner. Since, starting this program I have found new ways to attract students to our program as well as, engage the learners that are in our current program. Such as, implementing quizlet live for reviews before exams, using pear deck for lectures, and applying kahoot for practice or fun. I have received great feedback from them and how my changes our helping them learn.

I believed in my innovation plan and was convinced it was the best for my program at the time. I did not really understand the other ideas that were out there at the time. I am not sure if this was because I was new to teaching or it was due to the lack of understanding. I did not know that I had already started working towards flipped classroom, before I beginning the DLL program but I was not sure there was an actual term. This is where I lacked in my training in education and why I chose a master’s in education, so I am unsure why I did not put my research into flipped classroom. But I believe everything I am doing is authentic and my plans are working for my students. I still believe that my implementation video does show what I ultimately want for my students through e-portfolios.

I believe that the COVA approach works great for programs such as the education, core studies, and subjects. It can be somewhat of a challenge when implementing it into a health careers program that is aligned by national or state board exams. I have started to instill it in one of my course projects and slowly incorporating it with my students. For instance, my students in their first semester of instruction are given a group project over a respiratory protocol. The only instruction they are given is their group assignment, respiratory protocol, develop a youtube video that shows how this protocol will be instructed or used on a patient. Everything else is left up to them. Rather if they want to use a manikin, live patient, a narrator, and the equipment or therapy they decided to use. They then are to present it to the class for the other instructors and students to view for feedback. They have really enjoyed this opportunity they have been given. Other than this presentation at the moment, I usually can only allow them choice in their clinical experiences.  I plan to incorporate this slowly and more in the future as I continue to create more authentic projects for my students.

The hopes for the future of the program is to head to a more COVA/CSLE approach, except I am not over the program at the moment and I can only instill in certain courses at the moment. The program director is retiring in the Spring and there is hopes that I will be up for the position post graduation. I am hoping that I can incorporate most of my learning then. I hope to allow my students to a certain point to create their own learning through their voice. I am beginning through simulations and clinical projects. Next, I hope to do so in my other courses throughout the next year. Even though, my students are required to pass their boards via a multi choice exam they could still have the power of COVA.

Be Smart, Be Kind, Be Anything, But Don’t Be A Bully

Cyberbullying-Just Say No

This week’s lecture is all about cyberbullying, what it is, how to prevent it, the signs, and case studies on teenagers that was impacted by it. Cyberbullying involves the use of text to either send or post hurtful, embarrassing text, or images, videos intended to images or harm the other party. It also, may involve unwelcomed texts or emails who they have requested no communication (Essex, 2016). After, reading all the material from this weeks material as well as currently watching 13 Reasons Why, I have learned that today’s technology can have so much influence on our students. Us educators much be very aware of what is going on in our school and our student’s lives. With it finally making 49 states accountable for knowing any information that might involve a student with cyberbullying or bullying that could lead to influence of their depression, could help improve survival rates.

Some student’s see their teachers more than they see their parents. They are probably displaying signs in the class from slipping of their grades, depression, and withdrawal from lectures. The teacher would pick up on the signs if they are really paying close attention to their students. As a parent a way to help prevent or stop cyberbullying is to stay connected with your child. Know your child’s passwords, look through their phones, monitor their work on their laptops, and stay connected to your child.

The best way to help with cyberbullying is to know your child. Most of the parent’s say my child is great I know they wouldn’t do that. But, how do you know they wouldn’t do that? Are you monitoring what they are doing? Are you concerned about them and what they are doing daily? Most will say that is their phone, laptop, or Ipad I do not want to invade their privacy. This is your child and they do not have privacy in your home. Same goes for students in the classroom we need to make sure we are not ignoring behaviors of students picking on other students and sending rude or crude comments via text, social media, or email. We are the adults and they rely on us to make them safe.

We were asked to review Monica Lewinsky Ted Talk – The Price of Shame and evaluate how the scandal would have been played out in today’s technological world. We must be very cautious in today’s word about what we share and what we post on the internet or with friends, coworkers, or family. Although, the government can research almost anything and getting what they need on the average person. But, with one slip to the wrong person or a save on your share on your phone that could put the government in a place to request access to your information should something arise. The shame game being played out on the internet has happened so much for so many. I have hardly witnessed it by friends or family of my age. But I have witnessed celebrities and friends or younger friends that are not mature enough when posting either to Instagram or snapchat stories. One post or screenshot another child has reposted their snap and then are sharing and sending it out to everyone. I have constantly tried to tell my stepchildren, niece and nephew always be cautious of your actions and respect others on internet as if you would like to be treated. It is sad to witness.

I was in the ninth grade when the scandal was released, I remember my grandfather updating me daily as he watched C-span all day long. Or my parents talking about it. It was a huge ordeal even as a high school freshman in East Texas, everyone was talking about it. I am unsure of how it would have played out on social media. I believe it would have been harder for Monica to cope with the media. I see the hateful comments that fans give gorgeous actors or reality stars on selfies or pictures of their children. I could not believe the comments they would have left her or the death threats, or hateful messages that would be typed. People are such cowards behind the keyboard. They feel like they are powerful when they can type their words. But when they face you they are not so powerful they are powerless.

The next video we were prompted to evaluate was Shane Koyczan’s To This Day Project. We were asked if we had unlimited resources, what would you do to prevent cyberbullying and promote kindness? I honestly do not believe there is a way you could prevent it completely. Especially, when you have apps such as snapchat, rate me, and the app where they send comments anonymously. You could regulate the applications but just like anything there will be others that would bypass the laws.

But if I had the resources, I believe I would help start an organization in my community to provide a program to help educate students at the age of ten on how their present actions could affect their future. Not only could it affect someone’s life permanently but, psychophysically. Not all people are created equal and can handle the effects or backlashes of the negativity that is created by rude, inappropriate comments. We should always treat our friends how we would like to be treated. Rather than be in person or behind a keyboard, phone, iPad, camera or a YouTube video. Always make sure your present social media post will not affect your future friends life, schoolmate life, or your profession.

Think Before You Share

Copyrights and Copywrongs

This week we have learned how copyright laws can affect our students and how we must make decisions when lectures are made. We should not put work out there just because we think it is great information for our students to learn. We must first take into consideration is this fair use? Credit should always be given where credit is due. Citing sources, asking for rights to use their information, and being careful to not plagiarize the information is how we can be better role models for our students. If we want them to have organic experiences, then we should show them that we are doing the same thing.

After reading the white paper I was asked my opinion if I thought if the U.S. Copyright Office gave a good argument to separate from the Library of Congress. A new Librarian of Congress will be appointed to replace the retired James Billington who served for the past 28 years.  Billington took office before the advent of the World Wide Web and the sweeping changes of the information age.  Presently the Librarian of Congress oversees the U.S. Copyright Office, but some think this should change.  The Hudson Institute recently released a white paper detailing why the U.S. Copyright Office should be separated from the Library of Congress.  After reading the white paper, do you think the Hudson Institute makes a good case for separation or should they remain together?

I believe the paper makes a great cause that the U.S. Copyright Office separate from the Library of Congress. The U.S. Copyright Office although, being still behind in the technological times they seem to have a plan and sources to build their bank of sources. They seem to have the right guidance on IT, secretary placement, and sources to scan in the documents that are needed to provide an online and active database that will be easier to search. The office seems as if it needs to be ran as one entity alone. There are so many things that need to be focused on that could be missed due to the broad office that it has been ran under for so many years. The past Librarian was put in to play way before times had advanced to online libraries and digital files. Now, the database must be looked at in a different perspective.

Below, I have explained the main terms that we covered this week and what each of them mean. Each of them shows an example:

  • Plagiarism is when someone takes someone else’s work and represents it as their own. Such as, a paper, poem, or artwork without giving them credit for using their work. For example, is when a student pays for a paper online and submits it as their own to you for a class assignment.
  • Copyright infringement is when anyone violates the rights granted to a copyright owner by making unauthorized use of work. For example, if Johnny makes a video for his you tube channel and post background music from his favorite rapper but does not have rights to use his music, he could be liable for copy infringement.
  • Attribution is giving credit to the source of the work. For example, citing the source of a research paper in your works cited or references to give proper credit to the original source.
  • Transformation is when your work is being used for a different manner than what the original work was intended to be used. For Example, a band makes a song and then years later a singer will write a song with similar lyric and music to transpose it such as the case with 2liveCrew and Roy Orbison.

I was also asked the following statement: “The effective use of copyrighted materials enhances the teaching and learning process” I think of all the digital access that our students have access to. I believe it is important to educate not only ourselves, but our students on the appropriate way to access and use the information. Although, many of the works that are available to them can be shared and re-shared on social media and used for other works does not mean ignorance is bliss.

Before, giving our students a project, we should educate them on how we would like them to present it and what the proper way is to give certain credit to the information that they are researching and using digitally. Such as, if they refer to a you tube video and post it on their e-portfolio they should give the proper credit to the original maker of the video. Educators as well when reviewing videos or posting them to their presentations or taking digital media, pictures, or other works should give the credit where credit is due.

I know I fail at this daily when I lecture. I tend to at the last minute find a video of “how breathing works” and post it to my slide deck to show my students when they are not understanding the mechanisms. I tend to forget to refer to the original maker, hospital, or doctor who originally makes it. This is where we should be the models at. It is our responsibility to model the behavior that is expected out of our students.

After this week review, I have learned that I need to be more careful with how I present my lectures to my students. I tend to like to incorporate videos, make copies of workbooks, and add pictures from the web to help show them how the respiratory world works. I must give the credit where credit is due. I am lacking in this department and I need to make sure I am modeling what I expect from my students. When posting something or sharing something going forward, I will think is this fair use? Remember Think before you Share!

The Digital Footprint

This past week we have discussed what is a digital footprint and how will or has it impacted us and our students. Technology plays a very important role in our lives and when educating our students and children. I know today is a new day in age and we have to accept the fact that our students will learn differently than we did. We have to accept the fact that technology is the way that has to take place. But, what we need to do is educate our students that every move they make and every click they take will impact them for the rest of their lives. I have learned in the last week that the things we do today will forever impact you no matter the delete button.

I myself, feel as if I am too dependent on technology. I am the person who cannot go without their phone or knowing what is going on around them. I know think of how will I ever make it without my apple watch? I do not even take it off at the beach. I must have it. I am not sure what for but, I am so use to the fact that I am connected. Although, I have not grown up with access to the Internet like my students that I teach. But, I do relate a little bit more than my co-workers. I did get access to dial up Internet when I was in high school and have access ever since. I tend to understand more when it comes to my students forgetting their phone is in front of them and they check it instead of trying to avoid it. Like always there is a time and place. I do not touch my phone or talk on my phone when my boss is conducting a meeting. I know when respect is earned and reciprocated.

Lack of access to technology

But, without access to the new technologies available to us in the health field our students would suffer. We try to keep them up to date on all the new and up and coming treatments or therapies. The problems with this is, it takes a lot of money to get our students access to the new technologies. Therefore, without grants we are not able to simulate these tasks. Many times I have to use you tube videos or other sources of Internet material that is free of access to show my students. I believe the problem with having access to information or videos for my students available on the internet is the fact their are HIPPA laws that we must abide by. We are limited to the sharing. Most of the videos that are free of access for us to show are students are what I could simulate or it is from a third world country.

I have to make sure that my students are aware of their actions in the health field and what they publish on the Internet can affect them not only in school but career wise. I worked at a long-term care facility in the past and a former co-worker was let go due to posting a picture of a resident and herself on her face book page. Although, this was harmful she did not have permission from the facility, nor did she get permission from the family of that resident. The parties in play thought they were not in the wrong, but had something came up the facility and everyone around could be in harms way.

digital footprint-tattoo

According to Christenssen, a digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes the websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit to online services (Christenssen, 2014). I believe a digital footprint is the mark you leave in the digital world. Where you have been, how you got here, and where you are going intentionally leaving your footprint would be that you purposely posted a picture of your family and yourself on vacation..

Christenssen defines A “passive digital footprint” is a data trail you unintentionally leave online. For example, when you visit a website, the web server may log your IP address, which identifies your Internet service provider and your approximate location. As well as, an “active digital footprint” includes data that you intentionally submit online. Sending an email contributes to your active digital footprint, since you expect the data be seen and/or saved by another person (Christenssen, 2014).  I believe, an unintentional digital footprint would be information leaked by third parties. Such as, now you speak to your neighbor about wanting tacos from Taco Bueno for lunch. Then, you are going through Facebook and you notice all of the ads on tacos and then Taco Bueno ads and coupons arising. This would be unintentionally done but know Facebook or Google knows you want tacos today. An “active digital footprint” includes data that you intentionally submit online. Sending an email contributes to your active digital footprint, since you expect the data be seen and/or saved by another person.

How to build a good digital footprint

Students can deliberately build a good digital footprint by being active in effective social media that correlates with their career path or future field. Also, they could develop their e-portfolio and to help build their future resume for a positive outlook post-graduation. And making sure that their social media accounts correlate with their e-portfolios positively, for future employers to view. Their e-portfolios should include everything that is going on in their current learning such as, vlogs, blogs, research, and assignments for reflection. They could also, take into account the digital elements that we discussed in the prior week from the Ribble text. I developed a video this week to represent how technology has impacted digital citizenship in the recent years. In my video it will show how students need to think before they post. This can make a lasting impression on their future.

Introduction to Digital Citizenship

What does it mean to be a good digital citizen

This past week, I have learned the official rights to a citizen when using technology to communicate online or through any means necessary digitally. Through the readings in the Ribble text, I have discovered his meanings and explanations of what a good digital citizen is. Digital citizenship can be described as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior about technology use. Good digital citizens work to help create a society of users who help others learn how to use technology appropriately (Ribble, 2015).  As well as, compared the differences in what citizenship means vs digital citizenship. I retrieved the definition of citizenship from Merriam-Webster’s dictionary in order to obtain a better meaning of what us in society are when we mimic a good citizen. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary online, the fact or status of being a citizen of a particular place and/or the qualities that a person is expected to have as a responsible member of a community describes citizenship (Merriam-Webster, 2019).  After my discovery I realized digital citizenship vs. citizenship has minimal differences. They both establish the fact that you belong to a community, one to a digital community and the other to a national or governmental community. Therefore, they both describe a place where you are responsible to take care of those communities. They both describe a place where you are the person making the choices in your community that can affect your ultimate outcome in the future.

We as educators need to make sure our students as well as ourselves understand and take responsibility when posting or submitting work via that Internet. Reviewing this information with our students and letting them understand how being a good citizen also means being a good citizen while using their electronics will help break down a barrier. They need to understand that what decision they make today could affect them in 2045 and being that good citizen in 2019 might allow them to be an exceptional citizen in their professional role.

Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship

Shown below Ribble also, express his thoughts on the nine elements of digital citizenship and how each has its own importance.

Digital access – Citizens have different levels of access.  Full access should be a goal of citizenship.

Digital commerce – Buying and selling online is increasing exponentially, and consumers need to be aware of what to purchase and the legality of their purchases.

Digital communication – There are numerous ways to communicate online, and citizens need to make wise decisions in what and how they communicate.

Digital literacy – Technological literacy requires citizens keep up with digital changes.

Digital etiquette – Citizenship comes with a responsibility to follow etiquette when communicating with others.

Digital law – Citizens have a responsibility to behave ethically and be aware of laws governing them.

Digital rights and responsibilities – The rights of users are shared equally.  These rights come with responsibilities.

Digital health and wellness – Physical and psychological issues can occur when ergonomics and other problems are not addressed.

Digital security – Citizens must take action to protect their information online.

Many of this impacts my program, students, and myself personally. I need to consider what is important when expressing what I want to model to my students and how I want them to reciprocate digital citizenship. Therefore, after reviewing the nine elements of digital citizenship I believe that digital communication, law, and rights and responsibilities are most important to my program and students. Digital communication involves emailing or texting information. When I think of think element, I relate it back to (HIPAA) laws. Therefore, we do not allow our students to bring in their cell phones to the hospital. We start with not allowing them on in our classroom while lectures are going on. Our health careers programs have tried to eliminate our students from sending any patient information out while in a facility and to teach them the importance of patient privacy. Next, is Digital Law I think of plagiarizing case studies and research papers when I review this element. I have tried to establish the importance of plagiarizing papers to our students. One way I have tried to eliminate this is to have them write their papers over specific patients they have helped with their instructors. Also, I have incorporated student owned presentations. Digital Rights and Responsibilities would also be important to my program. Recently, we have had issues with students cheating in our computer lab on exams from copy and pasting to Google from blackboard exams. This was over multiple programs. We have tried many ways to stop this from happening, but we cannot always catch them. Therefore, this semester our college has purchased a lock down browser for blackboard and we will have to advise them why we have chosen to do this going forward.

Therefore, during this week I have reflected and learned so many new ways to communicate with my students and myself on how to take accountability when using digital resources. I believe it is an important aspect even at the college level to learn. Especially, for professionals and those going into health care. There are many aspects of law that could get students into trouble in such a fast moment when dealing with healthcare. It is my responsibility that I am communicating these aspects to them. This week has helped me with the approach and when to introduce this to my students.

Simulation Reflection to Eps?

I have been researching journals or websites that really relate to what inspires my plan. I have also, look at some of their publications. I have been drawn to the Respiratory journals as they relate to my field the most. Below I have provided a two different journals regarding my field and how I would like my innovation plan to be incorporated with simulation.

One article I found when researching places to submit my work to was from AARC American Association for Respiratory Care https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=573844#{%22issue_id%22:%22580643%22,%22view%22:%22contentsBrowser%22} Feedback Isn’t A Dirty Word. I found this to be interesting as I have really pushed this on simulation and through my e-portfolio initiative. I find that feedback is key in health care. We need to make sure our students receive great feedback when saving others lives.  The next article relates to Using Simulation to Build High Performance Teams. The simulation coordinator she is a RN at Angelina College and myself RT have been working together to incorporate all fields of health care study to help them experience real life situations in a hospital and let show them teamwork. I believe this article will show using simulation will help our students through RN, RT, Radiology, Sonography, Pharmacy, and so on learn to build better communication as well as save more lives.

I currently, do not have any partners that collaborate with me online. My program director carries his jump drive everywhere he goes. I sometimes do, but I tend to loose things. I started last semester using google sheets to share students clinical schedules online therefore, they would always have a live update of the changes. Although, I do use google drive myself and one drive. I house all of my work and school work on one drive that I am currently working on so that it is available to me from everywhere.

My innovation plan is to implement E-portfolios into Respiratory Care Education with the emphasis of feedback and reflection. I want to tie in simulation through the e-portfolios, and allow the students to use them as a reflection tool. I chose for my topic is to show how simulation in respiratory care education at Angelina College has engaged, stimulated, and proved for the need in our program. Before, I started here in 2016 there was simulation but the nursing program was the only program that would use it. I was introduced one day to the coordinator and she mentioned all the opportunities and I was unaware of the access we were allowed to have. Since then I have been an advocate for it. The lab has grown tremendously since then. We have been to numerous conferences and my program utilizes the lab more than any discipline. Being able to have access to situations that might not occur in a real life setting, will ultimately prepare the student for post graduation.
